Astra is from the first litter out of Froy, by Sunny. She is a
beautiful sable girl who is now 14 years of age. She was a wonderful mother and auntie to any and all puppies, producing some fine Malamutes herself, such as
Lilli & Ukko, and she took over as matriarch of the kennels when her mother died. Jari has a real soft spot for Astra who has been a
wonderful ambassador for the Samaljankan Kennel in Finland, Sweden & here in Canada. Now in retirement as the "house dog", Astra is enjoying her twilight years teaching the younger dogs
their house manners!
Her show wins have included many
BOB wins (including the Finnish Malamute Club's Annual Show), several Group 5 (FCI) placements and a Veteran BIS 4th in Sweden just prior to our move to Canada (Summer of 1999). Since moving
to Canada, as a veteran she has completed her Canadian championship even with her glorious sable colouring. At the 2003 AMCA National Specialty she was the oldest dog competing but moved around
the ring with the best of them and in the regional she won Best 12+ Years Veteran.
Astra passed away at the grand old age of 15 years and 8 months.
